Many writers and connoisseurs have been inspired by Chianti wine, "the ambrosia drink". The historical name "Chianti" originates from the area between Castellina, Radda and Gaiole where the wine producers founded the "Chianti League", making the black rooster their symbol. Nowadays the Chianti Classico is the largest and most famous area of wine production in Italy. A breathtaking landscape of about 70,000 hectares of rolling hills covered in vineyards and medieval hamlets. Classes start at 5.00 p.m. and finish at about 7.30 p.m., usually once a week on a Thursday afternoon, from May to October. The wine classes organised by PARLiTALIA are held at a lovely "Enoteca" with an expert and generally cover these topics: Wine production: how the grape is grown, picked, fermented, stored, aged ad bottled. Principles of wine tasting: decanting, the shape of the glass, tasting order, clarity and colour, smell, palate. Which wine?: an introduction to the combination of wine and food. During a lesson you will taste 3 different types of Chianti wine together with appropriate Tuscan salami and cheese. Minimum 4 students per class. |
