If you decide not to take the additional classes in History of Art and  Wine Tasting, we can  provide interesting, easy-to-follow alternative itineraries and activities:

- Walking tours in the beautiful countryside of the Valdarno Superiore.

- Trips to the outlets of the most prestigious designer labels: Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana.

-  visits to local museums and art galleries.

- An afternoon of relaxation and pampering at one of the spas offering "wellbeing" sessions including massages, facial, biosolarium, sauna, Shiatsu, aromatherapy etc.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME

Our Cultural Programme takes place in the afternoons and at the weekend and covers a variety of activities. These trips usually last 3 to 4 hours.  On Saturday or Sunday we organise full-day excursions to explore parts of Tuscany further afield. One evening a week there is also an evening event which may be a film viewing, a concert or a comedy/play at the theatre.

Below you will find examples of our 2 week cultural courses. These are subject to modification.

Minimum 4 students per week.

Week 1

Monday:

A Stroll around Figline.  Get to know the town where the school is located; its main features and facilities and join us for a welcome drink (Happy Hour) at the school.

Wednesday: Walking tour of Florence. A pleasant walk around the city with a guide who will show you the  Church and market of Santa Maria Novella; Basilica di San Lorenzo (entrance included) and the Medicean Chapels; the Cathedral and square of Santa Maria del Fiore, Via Calzaiuoli, Piazza Signoria, Loggiato degli Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio; the Church of Santa Croce; il Bargello, Piazza della Repubblica and Palazzo Strozzi.

Friday: Free afternoon . "Cinema Night" in the school or at the cinema. A critical introduction and viewing of  Italian films by famous directors such as: Fellini, Benigni "La vita è bella ", Moretti, Salvatores "Mediterraneo", Muccino "L'ultimo bacio", Nuti etc.
Sunday: Excursion to Lucca and its villas. A tour of elegant and refined Lucca,  starts with a walk around its 16th century walls followed by visits to the Church of San Frediano, Piazza Anfiteatro, Torre Guinigi and the Cathedral of San Martino. The tour proceeds with visits to the splendid villas in the area: Villa Torrigiani with its lavish apartments and beautiful grounds and the splendid gardens  of Villa Mansi.

 

Week 2

Monday:

Visit to Palazzo Vecchio. A guided tour inside the the city's most important civic building (town hall). Built in 1299,  it became the headquarters of the Priory of the Arts, the Signoria and the Grand Dukes residence. Your guide will be in medieval costume. 1st part of the tour: State Rooms, the Salone del Cinquecento, the Sala dei Gigli and the Sala degli Elementi. 2nd part of the tour: The secret passages, the Tesoretto of Cosimo, Le Capriate and muh more.

Wednesday: Visit to Arezzo. A town of Etruscan origin which became an important centre of learning and arts in the Middle Ages. The city still retains much of its medieval character and is definitely worth a visit! Noteworthy buildings include the Gothic cathedral, the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria and the Church of San Francesco. The trip includes a visit to the frescoes of the legend of the Holy Cross by Piero della Francesca, one of the most important artists of the pre-Renaissance period.

Friday: Free afternoon. Cultural evening: cinema, theatre or concert at the school's discretion.
Saturday: Siena and San Gimignano. A drive through the beautiful Chianti region.  On arrival in Siena, a guided tour through the medieval streets of the old city centre.. A visit to the Cathedral and the Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana. The tour ends at the Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse race takes place in July and August. Departure for San Gimignano a beautiful medieval town on a hilltop characterised by its many towers. Free time to discover this fascinating place. On the way back, you can admire Monteriggioni, enclosed by its famous walls.
